Lightning rich band of storms sailed down from Eucla to Whyalla, starting late at night on 21st December and finishing just before sunrise on 22nd.

Here's where the pictures start to get a bit better, I especially like the last frame, it was about a 17 minute exposure and it has 35+ CG lightning strikes on it.  This then roughly equates to one strike per 30 seconds on average across the area of sky in the picture.  This is about right as I would have guessed that there was probably an average of one flash visible per 5 seconds.  So when you count the extra sky not covered in the pic and consider CCs this is about right.  At times because of the peaks and troughs in the activity, there were only a few flashes in two minutes and at other times there was a flash every second.
