Political donations and money entering politics in general has corrupted democracy. The actual definition of democracy is that the public is able to influence public policy, the voting is just the mechanism via which this was supposed to happen. The problem is, the candidates now listen and implement policy advocated for by lobbyists and donors far more than for the citizens they represent.
