http://www.spring.org.uk/2009/11/the-ch ... effect.php - this is about mimicry. If we are total conscious choice then how can we be copying someone's movements without even being aware of their movements or of our copying!? Better yet, with all this going on and no knowledge of it, why do we end up liking the copy-er more???

Actually, this also begs a wider question of what less strong people-y things that we watch, might we begin to mimic? For example, tv and characters on there? Yes its a less intense interaction watching a 2d image on a screen but its people being watched, could the mimicry be extremely subtle, at least to begin with, but grow with repeated exposure, with the mimic-er having no idea where they are getting their material from??

Of course we only have direct control over our own expectations of others, so one implication of this study is that by changing our expectations of others we can actually change their behaviour for worse or, should we choose, for the better.
-the above is an important thing to consider for education, don't necessarily need to believe that they are brilliant, just need to stop believing that they are incapable.

- Carol Dweck's growth mindset stuff is along these lines as well.

situation versus personality in determining ppls behav, situational was far larger, supports notion that disadvantaged ppl act the way they do because of past disadvantage rather than some innate personality type

how can we have total choice or rationality if we can't even 'see' some aspects of ourselves about which we must have choice??

I would call this an anchoring or priming effect but regardless, its a pretty good illustration of how subtle factors can have an effect on decision making and actions.
